Unfortunately, the recent scourge of spam has prompted mwace and I to decide that more active measures are required to keep the forum intact. From now on, all new user accounts will need to be activated by an admin, i.e. me. If any existing users invite a new user to the forum, let me know and I will activate their accounts. I still need to develop a policy for determine whether a non-referree is a person legitimately looking to join our forum or a(n) (human) adbot-spambot. When I do determine that, I will update this thread.
Warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing rules

Just make them write one sentence explaining who they are.

Negative, having an admin judge a registering user on a sentence like that would be very unprofessional and ineffective.
In case it isn't as overwhelmingly obvious to others, the 'spambots' are humans paid to participate on online boards with a link to a commercial site. Metalman's research has revealed they are largely Indian.

Quick explanation: you will see the active abusers get banned before deleted. I'm doing this because I don't have enough time to collect/process the data on them that I'm collecting. They, along with their posts, will be deleted once data acquisition is complete.

I was talking to mwace earlier today/yesterday, and (perhaps in jest) he brought up a valid idea.
We ban India from AGF.
Although, I kinda want to keep one or two of them. I know it sounds weird, but I am legitimately interested in what they have to say sometimes.

Actually I was quite serious when I said that to you.
From my logs /w MM:
Session Start (AEFXC23:wi1ldfire): Sat Nov 07 19:53:13 2009 -0500
[19:53:13] wi1ldfire: alright, i'm gonna start banning these fruits
[19:53:24] mwace: don't
[19:53:38] mwace: remove their accounts (including all posts) and work towards a regional IP ban of India
[19:53:56] wi1ldfire: so we're going heavy-handed, eh?
[19:54:07] mwace: yes
[19:54:13] wi1ldfire: I like it, good sir
This goes against AGF's current libertarian-esque policy, but AGF does not concern me anymore.

This is a trivial issue. I may transition AGF to Akitha even before the skin is complete (read: default MyBB skin). Integrating a registration key into the registration process on the MyBB install under /home/mwace/Akitha on the server is the only meaningful task.
